«a rada was born as an independent contemporary art space in 2003, and it soon became a reference for contemporary art in Ticino. (...) oday, Locarno is comparable to many other peripheral regions, however in the global era this kind of situation can give rise to actors who play an important role in the mediation between cultures, networks and neighbouring markets. With this central belief, la rada rermarks its program and diversifies its strategies with a strong commitment for the development of a specific production method and networks at various levels. This commitment is also focused on developing hybrids of artistic languages that lead to the production of complex works of art that range from installation to production of experimental films. This involves a research that spans the landscape of contemporary art, whose different levels are often struggling to find a common ground. Our particular position enables us to refer at the same time to independent realities, singular figures and a network of established institutions. (...) The fundamental lack of a specialized network in Ticino convinced la rada to increase its scope and to develop collaborations with established initiatives that are renowned at the international level (International Film Festival of Locarno, Festival of Literature & Translation Babel, Bellinzona) and with other extra-cantonal realities ranging from the Italian magazine Mousse to independent art spaces (Viafarini, Careof, Brown in Milan, Whitespace, Zürich, ...) as well as other initiatives such as Utopics, the Swiss Sculpture Exhibition Bienne and the festival Les Urbaines in Lausanne. «Depuis quinze ans, la rada, à l'initiative de Noah Stolz, s'est spécialisée dans l'art contemporain, en s'occupant d'expositions dans ses propres espaces et ailleurs. Le choix était immédiatement de sortir des limites de la province et d'essayer de représenter ce qui était nouveau sur la scène suisse et internationale.
D'une part, il a été décidé d'opérer sans but lucratif, d'autre part d'obtenir des fonds pour produire les Suvres exposées le plus complètement possible et, souvent, même des films d'art.
Sous la direction de Riccardo Lisi et grâce au soutien de Pro Helvetia, la baie a encore accentué l'attention sur la scène suisse émergente, tout en augmentant la présence d'artistes de la Suisse italienne.
